Secure your Industrial Design. We register the unique aesthetic features (shape, configuration, ornamentation) of manufactured articles like watches, furniture, and packaging.
Check for Novelty & Originality.
Design Registration grants exclusive rights for 10 years (renewable for 5 more) to the visual features of a manufactured article. These features include the shape, configuration, pattern, ornament or composition of lines or colours applied to any article.
The registration provides the owner the right to prevent others from manufacturing, importing, or selling articles that infringe upon the registered design. This protection is crucial in consumer electronics, fashion, and industrial equipment industries where aesthetics drive sales.
Protects the visual appeal, not the functional working principle (which is covered by Patents).
Initial protection for 10 years, extendable once for an additional 5 years.
The design must be new, original, and must not have been disclosed publicly before filing.
Ensuring you file under the correct category.
A design used as a Trademark (e.g., a unique bottle shape) needs Design Registration for the shape and Trademark Registration for the brand name/logo on the bottle.
Once a design is registered under the Designs Act, it loses its Copyright protection. Only the design itself gets protection, not the artistic drawing.
The design must NOT be purely functional. Features dictated solely by function are protected under Patents, not Designs.
The design must be filed under the correct international Locarno Classification (e.g., Class 09 for Containers, Class 10 for Clocks/Watches). We ensure correct filing.
Search existing designs for novelty check (mandatory).
Prepare detailed drawings showing all six views of the article.
File online application with Statement of Novelty.
Design office raises objection if it lacks novelty or is functional.
Registration Certificate issued upon acceptance.
